The courses listed have been assessed under the CAOA Course Review process and were found to meet the educational core curriculum standards of the CAOA at the time of review. The course must be taught at an institution which is governed by another provincial act such as the Universities Act.
Each course listed must have a least one Registered Aromatherapist/Essential Oil Therapist – EOT® to teach the course. Teachers have all agreed, in writing, to teach the CAOA’s Core Curriculum as a minimum. The teachers are Registered Aromatherapists/Essential Oil Therapists – EOT®, with a minimum two (2) years practical experience as a qualified aromatherapist.
The CAOA and the CAOA Board Members do not assume any responsibility for the method of instruction used, facilities, quality of instruction or any other action or activity of these individual teachers.
The advantages of attending a recognized course and studying under a recognized teacher may include rapid membership processing, no cost for membership application review and ensures students have access to teachers with a specific level of knowledge and practical experience who have agreed to teach to the core curriculum.

Essence of Thyme College of Holistic Studies offers two bi-annually updated comprehensive and evidence-based online Aromatherapy Certification Programs.
The Professional Level Online Program and the Master’s Level Online Program were developed and are taught by Colleen Thompson – Registered Aromatherapist with over 25 years of experience in the fields of aromatherapy, product formulation, business and adult education, and by Dr. Kelly Ablard – Registered Aromatherapist Conservation Biologist with over 20 years of experience in the fields of scientific research, animal behaviour and aromatic plant conservation and sustainability. Both comprehensive online programs:
The Professional Certification Level is 380 hours in length and covers anatomy and physiology, research, 48 essential oils, 27 carriers, emulsifiers and preservatives, hydrosols taught by Ann Harman, CO2 extracts taught by Madeleine Kerkhof, addiction and essential oils taught by Dr. Florian Birkmayer and Cathy Skipper, and product licensing requirements. A one-year Lab Aroma subscription is also included in the tuition. The Master’s Online Program is 315 hours in length, is research-focused and covers 47 essential oils, advanced hydrosols taught by Ann Harman, advanced CO2 extracts taught by Madeleine Kerkhof, presenter and publication skill development, and your choice of elective including either teacher training, product licensing or product formulation The Professional Level Program is a pre-requisite to the Master’s Level Program. Graduates of the EOT programs have lifetime access to all educational resources and receive discounts to additional EOT programs. |

Ida Mae Woodburn B.P.H.E; CAHP; RRPr; Reiki Master is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Physical and Health Education (B.P.H.E.), a certified Aromatherapy Practitioner and Instructor (CAHP), a certified Reflexology Practitioner and Instructor (RRPr) and a Reiki Master.Ida Mae spent 34 years in public education as a department head and in this capacity was actively involved in curriculum development at both the provincial and municipal level. In the 1980s Ida Mae was awarded “Innovative Teacher of The Year” by the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association for her innovative and prototype program designed to keep young women involved in daily exercise.
Her passion for learning continued after she retired from public education and entered the holistic health field. As both a teacher and practitioner, her journey has included studies in several different modalities such as Cranio Sacral Level I, Basic Process Acupressure Level I and Lymphatic Drainage Level I with the Upledger Institute in the USA. In addition she has taken master classes in France with Dr. Penoel, a renowned French medical aromatherapist, plus Level 1 – 4 in Aromatic Kinesiology with Robbi Zeck from Australia. Ida Mae has been actively involved with the CFA both as the Education Chair for several years and serving on the CFA board as a director and vice president. In 2012 she was awarded by the CFA a certificate for excellence in the development, enrichment and progression of education in Aromatherapy. Whether it’s a course or workshop, Ida Mae’s teaching style is to make learning interactive on a regular basis. |

Please contact registrar@caoa.ca for more information* In 1999 Beverley Hawkins started the West Coast Institute of Aromatherapy has been teaching aromatherapy courses and aromatherapy workshops here ever since. The Full Professional Aromatherapy Course is offered as a combination of Aromatherapy 101 (180 hours) and Aromatherapy 201 (445 hours) for a total of 625 hours. This meets and exceeds the requirements to join the association at the Registered Aromatherapist Level (Minimum 400 hours). The Aromatherapy 101 course may be taken as a stand alone course for those who are interested in more training but who are not ready to become a Registered Aromatherapist. As a practitioner herself, Beverley continues to hone her skills and gather hands on experience and it is the depth of this clinical experience, together with her constant drive to learn more and more, that makes her an incredible mentor and guide to her students. The courses are delivered as downloadable PDF Files and may be started at any time. This allows the student to learn in the comfort of their own home, on their own schedule within the very generous official timelines. Along the way Beverley is always available to answer your questions and provide more insight and support.
